Of course there will always be fetishists, but I had this tribe in mind for folks who've actually DONE TIME. Fantasies are all well and good, but actually having gone to Catholic school is an acculturation experience all its own.
I did time at www.mayfieldjs.org/ and www.mayfieldsenior.org/
I went to public school up to 6th grade so I had a good basis for comparison. But my parents' Catholic fervor got the better of them and I was packed off to the polyester-wearin' post-Vatican II groovy nuns (what was left of them) for the rest of my pre-collegiate career. Middle school was co-ed and high school was all gurls.
Both schools had pretty abominable polyester uniforms. I found myself envious of other schools which at least got that really cool Black Watch tartan. My high school's colors were brown and white. Bleagh.
So where'd you go?

Re: Show me your school uniform
Sat, February 28, 2004 - 9:49 AMThat reminds me of one of my greatest regrets from high school. The main building of our school was a millionaire's mansion. So it was used as a movie and TV location many times. Mel Brooks filmed part of "To Be or Not To Be" there. Yes, I regret that I didn't meet Mel Brooks. But my BIG regret is that I assumed the photographer of our high school magazine would be on the ball and take copious pictures of the school when Brooks had it draped in Nazi flags! She didn't. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Thu, March 11, 2004 - 10:31 PMFor me it was St. Mary's In Walnut Creek, CA and De La Salle in Concord, CA. I loved and enjoyed some of my time in Catholic School. Other parts are brutal to remember and not really the subject of pleasant converastion.
Boy's uniforms for St. Mary's were Blue Cords and a short sleeved collared blue shirt. I still cannot even look at cords without laughing/crying. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, March 12, 2004 - 12:29 AMHeh. The junior school I went to had cords for the boys, too.

Thu, April 15, 2004 - 11:31 PMHello all!
I went to St. Bonaventure in Huntington Beach, CA (K - 8) then to Connelly (all girls) for 9th. Escaped and finished up in public school.
(I still have the uniforms and will break them out from time to time ... ) -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Thu, April 15, 2004 - 11:41 PMYer lucky that yours still fit. Wish mine did. Not because the uniforms were so cool, but just cuz... I held on to my winter uniform longest, getting rid of the blazer a mere 5 years ago. -
-
Re: Show me your school uniform
Thu, April 15, 2004 - 11:42 PMAh ... I escaped the blazer. But we (the girls) had these HORRID plaid pants that we could wear, in lieu of our skirts. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, April 16, 2004 - 12:25 AMPlaid pants? The horror! -
-
Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, April 16, 2004 - 10:06 AMHeh. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE plaid pants (and all things plaid for that matter) but these were hideous. If I can find my old pair, I'll take a photo and upload a picture. -

Sat, April 17, 2004 - 1:08 AMI love plaid, but for the most part I think the only people who should wear plaid pants are ancient Celts.

Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 11:16 AMWell, for K-8 I went to St. Ritas Elementary in Sierra Madre, CA. The uniform there was a blue, teal, and grey plaid skirt and white polo shirt.
Then I moved up to Alverno High School, all girls, which was a plain grey skirt, a white or pink oxford button down shirt, penny loafers, and a blue blazer for the formal days we had church.
The ugliest, thinnest, grey pants could be substituted for the skirts. They were wretched though. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 11:44 AMI went to St Paul's in Yakima WA, 1-5 grade.
We wore blue and green plaid jumpers with white shirts, navy sweaters and socks. We could wera whatever shoes we wanted as long as they were dress shoes.
Shoes were the most inportant thing about the uniform. It was the only status symbol there was.
The school itself was really ugly, but the church is beautiful!

They've since changed the uniform

Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 12:41 PMSounds like you guys had way cooler uniforms. I really wish we had had Black Watch tartan plaid or something. -
-
Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 1:53 PMYeah, it was a little bit lighter than black watch. And it had a tiny bit of orange in it, so in the mornings on St Pats day, my sister and I would have to run out of the house before my brother could slug us for wearing orange!

Wow, that's old school! Most Americans don't even know the significance of orange in an Irish context.

Re: Show me your school uniform
Fri, June 11, 2004 - 6:10 PMYo!
I wore the standard uniform of blue cords and white shirts...any sweaters or jackets were green...girls wore the green plaid jumpers then skirts.
I went to St. Philip Benizi, Fullerton, CA for Jr. High then on to Servite HS in Anaheim, CA...Coincidentally Brother school to Connelly, right, Anni? BTW, Anni, I had no I dea you went to CCHS...
Both schools are run by the Order of Friar Servants of Mary(the Servites)
www.benizi.org/school.htm -that's for St Philip's, apparently the Servite website is no longer operative...cheap bastards. -
-
Re: Show me your school uniform
Thu, June 17, 2004 - 1:42 PMHoly crap Jose! You went to Servite? Small world just gets smaller, no? What year did you graduate?
Yeah, went to CCHS for just a year, and wish I had stayed longer because the education I got there was of a much higher quality than when I escaped to public school. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Wed, June 30, 2004 - 10:51 AMI went to St. Brendan's (1-8)in SF and Mercy SF (9,11,12).
Grammer school was a BRIGHT orangey red plaid uniform with a tie (not a traditional one) and a cardigan. They changed the uniform about 10 years ago or so.
High School was a navy and white plaid with a white collared shirt. No blazers but we did have various sweaters that we could wear with. I still have this skirt and have been known to wear it on Halloween from time to time. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Wed, June 30, 2004 - 11:15 AMSt. Anthony in New Orleans for k-8, had to actually wera a tie in kindergarten, but only had school for a half day. white button down with grey pants. High school at Jesuit New ORleans, all khaki, patent leather shoes, unless you wanted to shine your shoes daily, nametags, the whole military thing -
-
Re: Show me your school uniform
Wed, June 30, 2004 - 1:44 PMMaking kindergarteners wear a tie? That's wack.

Re: Show me your school uniform
Tue, December 7, 2004 - 7:52 AMI went to St. Raphaels school for 6th - 8th grade. www.saintraphael.com/ (there is no school website, sadly. The school is to the direct right of the mission.)
Before that I'm afraid I cannot remember. I was bumped around from place to place very often, and went to many schools. For high school right now I'm in a public school. I had the choice to go to Marin Catholic www.marincatholic.org/ but I decided against it. I've never been to a public school before, so I decided it would be a good thing to try! ::smiles::
Yes, I think it's a very...interesting...experience going to a catholic school.
When I went to St. Raphael's the uniform was red sweatshirts (or blue sweaters) with blue and white plaid skirts. Not bad.

Re: Show me your school uniform
Sat, December 25, 2004 - 12:33 AMI went to public elementary and middle school and then to a catholic high school and college. I never had to wear a uniform. I feel kind of jipped but I recently bought a black and white plaid skirt with very subtle blue lines that has just enough pleats (four) to make you think Catholic School Girl without trying to hard. It's a slight consolation. -

Re: Show me your school uniform
Sat, December 25, 2004 - 12:34 AMoh, and I went to Archbishop Mitty in San Jose, Ca and St. Mary's College of California in Moraga. -

Of course I think "Walter Mitty" when I hear of that school. -
